Newborn Client Information:

Thank you for considering Mimi's Dream Photography for your newborn portraits.  This is a very special time in your life when you have just welcomed in your life a beautiful baby.  It is so important to capture just how precious this new life is to you and your family in the first two weeks of life.

What to expect:

The ideal time to photograph a newborn is between Day 5 and 12.

Newborn photography takes time and requires patience.  I always allow 2 hours at a minimum to allow time to soothe, settle, feed, and diaper baby as needed.

Pee and Poop Happens!  No need to feel embarrassed or bad if your baby decides it's time and it we have a bit of a mess to clean up.  We'll take care of it and go on with our session.

The studio will be warm when you arrive to keep baby comfortable.  I recommend wearing clothing that you will be cool in or consider dressing in layers so you too are comfortable.

Come to the studio with baby dressed in easy to remove clothing - snaps or zipper down the front.  Try to select something that does not require going over the head.  We want to keep baby as settled as possible in the transition.

After you arrive to the studio, you will loosen the diaper tabs to eliminate lines on baby if in fact you are wanting any "bare" baby images.

You will feed baby after you arrive and get baby settled before we start.

Safety and cleanliness is very important to me in my studio.  All items used on baby are laundered with Dreft Sensitive detergent.   I will never leave your infant unattended and may ask for your assistance in watching over them as I prepare for the next pose.

The studio is equipped with a changing station that includes diapers, sensitive wipes and Desitin for your use.  Please do not leave baby unattended on the changing table.

The studio is equipped with numerous props that includes baskets, trunks, chairs, etc., floor and backdrops, blankets, wraps, faux furs, hats etc.  I try to keep a variety of colors available for both boy and girl images.

What to Bring:

Bring a pacifier - even if your newborn doesn't use one frequently.  It often times helps to soothe the newborns as we get ready for the next shot.

Noise machines such as sleep sheep (I do have something I use but if there is something that works well for your infant please feel free to bring it).

I want to be certain the images of your newborn include any special items that you would like to bring with you such as:  first pair of shoes, special baby book/bible, jewelry, family keepsake, initial for the baby's name, any type of signage that you would like incorporated etc.

Miscellaneous:

If Mom/Dad will be in portraits with newborn, keep in mind your hands will be in many of the poses so manicures are always nice to consider.  If you have siblings that you want in some of the images with the newborn that is fine.  We can visit about some clothing suggestions.  I also recommend for younger siblings we start with them first and because younger children get bored with the process of a newborn photo session, you may want to consider having a family member or friend pick them up as we finish the session.
